The kōwhai tree is one of the most well known native trees found in New Zealand. It is well known for its vibrant yellow flowers that bloom in the spring. These flowers are important food sources for birds such as the tūī and bellbirds. This makes the kowhai tree a very important part of many ecosystems. Kōwhai trees can be found growing in various environments such as forests, riverbanks, and gardens. Their unique appearance and appeal to wildlife makes the kōwhai a memorable part of New Zealand's wild.
