Kauri trees are enormous, majestic trees native to New Zealand. They are trees famous for their thick trunks and immense height. These giants can live for over a millenia, and some getting near to three thousand years. One example of this is Tāne Mahuta, the biggest kauri tree in the world, a 45 meter colossus, estimated to be as old as 2500 years. Kauri trees have smooth, pale bark, and form a resin known as kauri gum. Recently, the amazing species has been threatened by an incurable disease called kauri dieback, making conservation essential to protect these trees.
